What's the VibeNYC

How it works

Embedded posts on What's the Vibe

What's the Vibe answers one question: what do people actually wear to this restaurant, bar, or club? Every venue page shows real outfits worn there. Those outfits are public social posts — they are embedded, never copied.

What happens when someone adds a look

  1. 1. A URL is pasted. A member tags a venue and pastes the link to a public Instagram post showing the outfit they wore there.
  2. 2. Our server calls Meta's oEmbed endpoint. GET /v21.0/instagram_oembed with an app access token — server-side only. There is no Facebook Login on this site and we never ask anyone for Instagram credentials.
  3. 3. We store the response. The post URL, the creator's handle, and the embed HTML Meta returns. No image, video, or caption is ever re-hosted on our servers or CDN.
  4. 4. The post renders. Instagram's own embed script hydrates the markup, so the post is displayed by Instagram, with the creator's handle and a “View original” link back to instagram.com on every tile.

oEmbed API status

Pending — awaiting oEmbed Read approval

Our server calls the endpoint on every page build. Until the feature is approved the Graph API declines the call, so the example below is rendered from Instagram's public embed markup for the same post — the same surface, the same link-back, the same creator attribution.

Server request

https://graph.facebook.com/v21.0/instagram_oembed?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.instagram.com%2Fp%2FDb_Tnv0lpev%2F&omitscript=true&access_token=[REDACTED]

Last response

(#10) To use 'Meta oEmbed Read', your use of this endpoint must be reviewed and approved by Facebook. To submit this 'Meta oEmbed Read' feature for review please read our documentation on reviewable features: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/apps/review.

Creator controls

  • Only public posts can be added — private accounts return no embed and are rejected at submission.
  • Deleting or making a post private on Instagram removes it here automatically; the embed stops rendering.
  • Creators can ask us to remove an embed at any time via our takedown form. We action requests within 48 hours.
  • Every embed credits the creator by handle and links back to the original post.
